The Montreal Alouettes and Canadian Football Hall of Fame have announced that Montreal will host the 2014 Hall of Fame Game and Gala in September.

The Hall of Fame inductions have a Montreal feel to them which is why Montreal was chosen. Among the inductees are Ben Cahoon and Uzooma Okeke who starred for the Alouettes and Wally Buono who is from Montreal, played for the Alouettes and started his coaching career in the city as well. Buono will be inducted as a builder.

“The Montreal Alouettes Football Club is thrilled to be hosting the 2014 Canadian Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony,” said Alouettes President and C.E.O Mark Weightman. “We’re looking forward to celebrating the members of the 2014 Hall of Fame class and the timing is perfect with the induction of Ben Cahoon and Uzooma Okeke who helped forge many championship teams here in Montreal. Wally Buono, who played on the dominating Alouettes team of the seventies, gets the chance to be inducted in his hometown in front of his friends and family. We are excited to give the chance to Montrealers and Alouettes fans to participate in such great festivities.”

Also named to the Class of 2014 were former CFL players Maurice Racine and Charles Roberts as well as Amateur builder Larry Haylor and Amateur player Neil Lumsden.

“The Hall of Fame is very pleased that the Montreal Alouettes have agreed to host this year’s event. We are excited to have added Montreal to the list of host cities for induction,” said Mark DeNobile, Executive Director of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum.

The Gala Induction Dinner will take place on September 20, during which the new inductees will be officially enshrined into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. Proceeds from the event will go towards the Alouettes’ community programs and to the Hall of Fame Foundation. Tickets are available to the public.

The 2014 Hall of Fame Game will be played at Percival Molson Stadium on September 21 when the Calgary Stampeders play the Alouettes. The new inductees and Hall of Fame guests will be honoured during a presentation at half-time.
