Can it get any worse for the Montreal Canadiens? We’re about to find out. One day after the man many people wanted to replace Michel Therrien took a job in Switzerland, famed assistant coach of 2010 Kirk Muller returns with his Carolina Hurricanes.
The Hurricanes played and won last night at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 with three goals from the Brothers Staal (two by Eric and one by Jordan) in an under three minute span in the third period. Columbus took the lead with two goals in under 20 seconds in the opening 2:42.
Anton Khudobin made 22 saves for the Hurricanes. Carolina has yet to name a starter for tonight’s game and will not have a morning skate in Montreal.

THINGS TO WATCH
The Montreal Canadiens have all said the right things after their loss on Saturday night to the Washington Capitals. Now is their opportunity to show their character. It is apparent that a coaching change is not right around the corner. It is on the players to perform to their abilities.
It will be interesting to see whether the Canadiens change anything in terms of their style of play or if they continue to play a dump and chase game which obviously has not been working. It won’t help much that George Parros re-enters the lineup for the sick Louis Leblanc who was sent down earlier today.
The last time these two teams faced off, the Canadiens blew a 3-0 lead in the third period and ended up losing in overtime 5-4 on New Year’s Eve. Michel Therrien will undoubtedly mention this pre-game and mention how it’s about pride.
The Canadiens were embarrassed against the Capitals and were cheered ironically at every shot on goal. Josh Gorges said that they never want to feel that way again. Tonight will show whether this team has as much pride as they say they do.
Carey Price will start for the Canadiens.
