Josh Gorges Sent Back To Montreal After Hand Injury
By Jared Book
Josh Gorges has been sent back to Montreal for further evaluation for a hand injury, and will obviously likely not play for the remainder of the road trip.
According to reports, Gorges injured the hand against the Pittsburgh Penguins and has played in pain since then.
It gives the Canadiens the opportunity to play newly acquired Mike Weaver, the Canadiens prized pre-trade deadline acquisition. It shows the importance of having the added depth as the Canadiens are only able to re-call three players from Hamilton for the remainder of the season so Nathan Beaulieu was likely not a possibility.
The Canadiens will also debut Thomas Vanek who joined the team this morning in Phoenix. It is expected that Peter Budaj will get the start for the Habs tonight against P.K. Subban Sochi best friend Mike Smith.
Montreal closes out their four-game California trip on Saturday against the San Jose Sharks, the team that traded Gorges to Montreal in 2007.
