The Montreal Impact today announced the acquisition of defender Mamadou Danso from the Portland Timbers in return for a second round pick in the 2015 MLS Super Draft.

Danso is 31 years old and has played 10 gamed for the Timbers this season, including nine starts. He was not in the lineup for Portland’s game last night against Vancouver.

Danso, known as “Fuddy”, has played 60 MLS games in his career and has one goal this season. He should be expected to add experience and depth to a battered Impact back line which is without Nelson Rivas, Matteo Ferrari and Adrian Lopez.

The Impact are clearly happy with the ways things have gone in their last two games as they get ready for the final leg of the Canadian Championships on Wednesday. Their 4-4-2 formation has brought nice results and they might be looking to add more experience to the back end.

The TSN broadcast of their last game mentioned that Troy Perkins said that he knew that Alessandro Nesta would rarely be out of position on the back line and that is something that had been missing this year. Danso should be able to help that, even if he’s just cover for any further injuries that may hit the team.

The translation? Powerful, sometimes awkward. Similar physique to Hassoun Camara. He’s not a game changer but provides a nice boost to the depth.
