Preview: Montreal Alouettes Look To Take Win Out Of Winnipeg

It wasn’t pretty, but last week was actually quite a positive game from the Montreal Alouettes. Yes, it was a loss without an offensive touchdown, but they were playing one of the better teams in the league and showed some improvement, especially defensively.

Tonight, they play the Winnipeg Blue Bombers who came back to beat them in the final minute of their first meeting at Percival Molson Stadium. Tonight, the team – that has been in the prairies since their game last week – will try to get their first road win of the season.

For Alex Brink, it is a return to where he started his CFL career when he was once thought to be Winnipeg’s quarterback of the future. Now, no one has allusions of Brink being the Alouettes saviour, but he will lead an Alouettes offence that has increasing pressure on them.

We’re now a week and a half from the Alouettes new offensive staff roles and almost three weeks from hiring Turk Schonert, Don Matthews and Jeff Garcia. Time is running out on the “give them time” excuse and soon results will be the only thing that matters.

Roster moves for the Alouettes include the return of Larry Taylor who is back on the 46-man roster. Bo Bowling has been removed. Marc-Olivier Brouillette is out with a concussion and he will be replaced by Mike Edem. Bear Woods starts his second straight game at middle linebacker.

One other thing to look at is how the Alouettes look to get the running game going. Last week, Alex Brink was their leading rusher with 32 yards. With both Brandon Whitaker and Tyrell Sutton in the lineup for the second time this season, it will be interesting to see if they can get something going on the ground. They only had 57 combined yards last week.

The Alouettes are not out of it yet, but winning a few games would go a long way going into their game at home next week – their first – against the expansion Ottawa RedBlacks.
