Impact Sporting Director has been involved in some capacity with Montreal soccer for the better part of 20 years. Whether it be as a player, a coach or a member of the front office, De Santis has been a constant in Montreal. But maybe 20 years was too much for the fans and the 47-year-old seemed to be wearing out his welcome.

Since the Impact joined Major League Soccer, they have had three coaches, with each being fired following their first season at the helm. But De Santis – who was in charge of buying and selling players (the equivilant of a general manager) – remained.

When the Ultras unveiled the sign above, the Sporting Director’s days became numbered, if he wasn’t on a short leash to begin with. De Santis was ‘relieved of his functions’ on July 30th and the Impact have recovered slightly since. They have amassed a record of 7-6-1 with three wins coming in the CONCACAF Champions League and four coming in MLS action.
